I thought this would be appropriate for the BoS/Grimoire section as I'm just slipping in some links to different websites that explain Chaos magick. Ever since I entered an occult bookshop and met a young Chaos magician (he was with his mother buying a small scythe for ritual, it was quite amusing) I've done quite a bit of reading into it. There doesn't seem to be many Chaotes around but since I'm quite passionate about it I thought I'd put down a few pages which I found interesting.
All about Chaos Magic (aboutreligion)
Chaos Magic: The Misunderstood Path (Llewellyn journal)
What is Chaos anyway? (chaoswitch)
What is Magick? (general knowledge - talks about different approaches to magick which I found interesting)
Some of you may have noticed that so far I've been introducing myself as a 'secular chaos witch', but after doing more research I think that if you are a chaos witch, that is all you need to call yourself, and all you should call yourself. Chaos magick seems to encompass all practices, religions and beliefs. It basically is not a practice in itself, but an attitude.
How I see it, Chaos magick declares that ultimately, you are your own deity and should seek mastery over yourself/your life. It reminds me of LaVeyan Satanism but does not limit itself to only Satanic archetypes. You work your magick by adopting any method you choose, reconstruct yourself and modify your practice to find what works best and do not limit yourself to any belief or practice. It's a very scientific and methodical way of working magick, and you might say, chaotic - without rules. It's very appealing to me and those who do not want any restrictions on how they perform magick, but it might be appalling to those who respect a person who is more or less consistent in what they believe in and how they practice their craft.
Chaos magick also feels like a step further than eclectic witchcraft - or are they essentially the same? I'm not 100% sure. Eclectic witches, I think, at least eventually establish how they practice their craft and what they believe in and stick with that, but the Chaote is always changing, always experimenting.
I'd like to hear your thoughts on this, if any of you would spare the time? And if any of you are more experienced than I am on Chaos magick then please do impart your knowledge to me or give some criticism (positive or negative) on the sources I have linked.
