I'm very curious in what people do with their altar spaces, particularly how often they change things on their altars and when and why. Seasonal changes? Changes for holidays? Just for whatever direction you're headed in at the moment? And when you do change your altar, do you have a special process or ritual for doing it or do you just go for it?
There are a few things that are always on my altar no matter what, save for when I dust it. But I do change out gems, flowers, small candles, Tarot/Oracle cards, and small trinkets in order to suit whatever I'm focusing on at the moment. Sometimes, especially when I'm de-cluttering my altar, I very unceremoniously heave everything off it! But usually I light some candles and meditate/pray/focus when I change things out.

My altar has really been the same for a year or so now and its feeling kind of stagnant. I'm ready for a change soon! I want to start incorporating live plants and more crystals, partly because #aesthetic, but also because I want to really dive into Hellenic revival more heavily. Right now my altar is more of a storage space for my occult things and less a viable spiritual space. In the long run, I'd really like to change for holidays and celebrations, to keep my altar current.

I change mine 4 times a year, when every season changes I only make minor changes though, I have a set setup that I love and whenever a new season starts, I add bits and pieces to my altar that I relate to that season. And when the season changes, I change those minor things as well!

Lately mine has been the same thing over and over, crystals, sometimes a plant (normally in the colder seasons because I want to have some nature still thriving inside), incense, certain ceramics that have witchy symbols, and shells ( I grew up with the beach so they feel very homely). It's all basically versatile, I have a small kotatsu (Japanese floor table) as my altar, and there are four square depressions in the wood, each about one inch deep. Thus each section is assigned an element, and If I have certain things that could be considered multiple elements, I put them on the space in between the squares or on the side closest to the other element. Ex. My incense could be fire or air, so I have the holder on the side nearest air. Ooh and candles are on there all year round. The only times I would decorate is probably Yule time and Imbolc-Ostara, and maybe near the end of summer weather, but that's about it. Happy witching!!
