I frequent a lot of witchy facebook pages and one of them posted an article the other day about how posting images of your altar might leave you vulnerable to curses. I personally can't imagine this, how would anyone be able to preform negative magick on me personally through an image of my altar?
As I write the question I realise I preform healing magick through images, I read tarot cards from images, so maybe it is possible?

Does anybody have any information about this and whether or not I should be more weary of posting pictures of my altar?

Altars are very personal. So your setup is essentially a personal signature - thus an image of it would be like handing out a picture of yourself or a copy of your handwriting, fingerprints, etc. For that reason, many will rearrange their altars before taking and publishing a picture if it.

Orthodox iconography was the first thing that came to mind. I admit I'm not Eastern or Greek Orthodox and my explanation is only second hand (I'll include some links that further describe this), but my understanding of Orthodox icons is that they function as a window into what they're depicting. Icons are more than just pictures, they're a focus for meditation and introspection and spiritual practice.

If someone treats pictures and images on their altar in this way, then I could see how they could open up to potential cursing. Treating an image on your altar as a window or passage means that window or passage could be manipulated.
